As a younger boy my parents started going to Hackensack on Birch Lake. Got to know Vern and his wife that ran the Bay View Resort. My Dad caught many Walleyes there. I believe I was 10 years old when we would go there on vacation. Went a lot of times to the dump with Vern. I think at one time he was a lineman for power company. I know he hunted moose and had many antlers at their place. I’m almost 66 years old now living in Florida. Met my first girlfriend there, she was from Iowa. Vern always every year had an outboard for me with a boat to use. I’m not sure how many years we went there, then my parents started staying at Lake Vermilion I know for thirty years, my parents ashes are scattered in the lake.
