I was excited to see this photo as my grandfather, James Gillitzer was the owner of Gillitzer Resort, and, in the late 70’s (after some years of ownership by Mrs. Hagen), my parents (Jack and Marge Stuhr) bought it back and ran it as Bass Lake Resort until about 1989. My family still owns the property. And though the cabins are gone and new homes in place, we saved the bar that was in the original store when my grandfather bought the resort back in the mid 1940’s. It’s been the gathering spot for friends and family for years, where we can sit and enjoy a cold one, swap stories, and savor the simplicity of life on the lake.
And, in keeping with our grandfather’s tradition, we now rent out a guest lodge so that others might enjoy the beauty of Bass Lake, creating their own memories, and swapping stories around the bar. 🙂
