  1. My dad and mom, myself and brothers came many years from Mankato. The Andersens. My Grandma Esther Benson and my auntie Joan Benson came too. We rented the big cabin and then i think they stayed in the new 0? one right next door We stayed in several others down the line when my Grandpa vern Benson was alive. Remember how your folks used to sit out in their chairs o. sundays waiting for us all to check in. I worked for the State as A social worker and we stopped by after placing a patient in Walker in 1982 or 1983. Had a great time every year and remember you and Ronnie. A fave place to eat was the Y Steak house!!! You made many summer memories for all of us!! Thank you!!!

My mom and dad owned Blue Bird Lodge for about 10 years in the late 50’s-early 60’s. I have many great memories of those days. Sure would be great to hear from some of those resort guests!!

My family stayed at Blue Bird from 1970 to 1998 when the resort was sold to private ownership. In the later 80’s the resort changed hands and the owners changed the name to Run Away Bay, but I have more fond memories of the original Blue Bird resort. We stayed in the central cabin with the fireplace, and concluded every evening with a sauna, followed by a fire with s’mores and hot dogs. I remember my Mom painting ceramics in the original home across the road.

YES–WE–(MY FAMILY)-WOULD STAY THERE AT BLUE BIRD LODGE FOR A WEEK FROM 1964 TO 1978. RIGHT ALONG LAKE BELTANE. SAUNA, BASKETBALL HOOPS (LATER), FISH CLEANING HOUSE, REC. ROOM WITH PINBALL MACHINES, ETC. THE OFFICE WAS ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. AN OLDER COUPLE RAN IT WHEN WE FIRST STARTED GOING THERE, THEN THE FITZLOFF FAMILY TOOK IT OVER.

We sold the resort after one full year up there! Was too cold (52 degrees below zero!!
It was great resort and it was one of the very best Minnesota could offer.
