My family and I loved Pine Rocks Resort. We took family vacations there every summer in the 60’s through the 80’s. Lou and Phil were wonderful people. Lou worked so hard off getting cabins ready for the next crew of people. I still remember her sheets blowing in the wind for the next groups. Phil got the docks ready each year and worked on the boats and the motors. They were both very busy people. I remember The Lodge, I’d get a Coke out of the old fashion Coke machine and a Slo Poke candy bar. My family’s love of fishing started there. I learned to water ski on that lake in ’76. I’d spend hours search the shoreline for agate rocks. I’d also look for turtles for the Nisswa turtle races. One year I won the resort race and gave the small trophy to Lou which she put in the Lodge. My favorite cabin was #8, I believe, because it was the two story cabin very close to the lake. Number 3, I believe, was the fanciest with a large fireplace. Those rented fast, I think we got #9 the most because of the size. All the cabins came with Chipmunks living under them. We’d train them to take peanuts off your knee, I only got bit once! So sorry Pine Rocks Resort isn’t there for others to enjoy and make lasting memories.
Stayed at Pine Rocks four or five times-late 60’s to early 70’s. I have several of the old post cards still, and some photos if you want them I can scan and email them to you. Have so many memories of that place. I loved the rustic cabins-no showers in our cabin but who took a shower in the summer on the lake anyway?
We went there every summer from 1976 thru 1984. Knew Phil and Louise well, I think Phil passed away early 1980s. We also shot arrows, took boats out and caught fish. Great memories, doubt you could find a place like that anymore. Loved the books she had in the lodge, great rainy day reading.
I was there in 1962 as a 12 year old. Phil and Louise owned and ran Pine Rocks Resort. Louise was my aunt and

Hi Brian, I am editing a new book on the history of Pelican and Little Pelican Lakes. One chapter will feature resorts that existed around these lakes. I’m looking for info about Pine Rocks Camp. Could you get back to me so I can share with you what I have and ask you about any camp photos you might have.

Did the book editor ever get back to you? I would hope to see your photos in that book someday!

Brian, I learned to fish on that lake in the early 60’s with my dad Larry Stowell. Lou and Phil’s were my great aunt and uncle…loved that place!
